TOMATOE: A SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION IN TUNISIA THANKS TO K-ADRIATICA

Support and sharing: we come alongside farmers, gathering their needs and sharing experiences on products.

With this purpose from July 3 to 6, Maria Rosaria Stile, our R&D Manager, and colleague Giorgio Ballotta, Export Manager, visited some processing tomato crops in the areas of Beja, Medjez el-Bab, Bouselem, Oued Mliz, Ghardimahou and Jendouba in Tunisia. The visit is part of the collaboration project between Sicam Agri and K-Adriatica.

SICAM AGRI and SICAM are companies belonging to the same group.
SICAM is a company specialized in processing tomatoes for industry since 1969. A leader in the Tunisian market, it has the capacity to process more than 500,000 tons of fresh tomatoes per year. More than a quarter of its production is exported to Europe, MENA countries, Canada, and Sub-Saharan Africa.
SICAM AGRI is responsible for maintaining contact with farmers by acting as a technical contact for the entire crop cycle thanks to a team of more than 20 agronomists scattered throughout the country. The company's objectives are:
- The yields increase
- The improvement of the technological characteristics of the product
- The adoption of technical lines with lower environmental impact and that ensure a good profit for the farmer

The purpose of our collaboration with the SICAM Agri group is to identify, through periodic field visits and exchange of information, fertilization protocols that are sustainable both economically and environmentally. We want to combine quantity and quality: in addition to high yields, it is extremely important to obtain a product with the technological characteristics suitable for processing into the different products in SICAM's range.
